Mark Consuelos Tells Kelly Ripa He Kissed Another Woman to Celebrate Their Italian Soccer Team's Win

"It was passionate," the co-host told his wife of the kiss during his recent trip to Italy in which Campobasso 1919 won the championship

Mark Consuelos is “passionate” about his soccer team!

On Live with Kelly and Mark on April 30, the co-host shared with his wife and co-host Kelly Ripa his happiness about a recent trip to Italy in which he watched one of their soccer teams clinch the championship — and he said he sealed the moment by kissing another woman!

“In the adulation, in the celebration, on the field, when we found out that the other team tied, and we are champions we ran over to our fans,” Consuelos, 53, said to his wife about their Campobasso 1919 squad.

He continued, “I’m running and I see this lady, let’s call her my aunt — maybe someone else’s aunt — and we look at each other and we’re so excited and there’s this [plexi]glass and we come to the glass, and you know what? I kissed her.”

Ripa, 53, was seemingly unimpressed.

“Do we have footage of this?” she asked. “We don’t have footage of it?”

Consuelos went on to detail the moment, and added that he “actually closed” his eyes for the kiss.

“That doesn’t happen, you never close your eyes,” Ripa deadpanned, as the audience laughed.

Consuelos then summed up the unlikely kiss: “I laid one on her. It was a smooch, but it was passionate.”

The All My Children alum spoke to PEOPLE last year about his investment — financial and otherwise — in two soccer teams, Campobasso 1919 and Ascoli FC.

In November 2022, Consuelos and Ripa announced their involvement with the teams, along with a co-ownership role in Campobasso, to help restore its success in the Italian soccer league.

After winning 28 of their 30 games, Campobasso's team was promoted to Serie D, but Consuelos told PEOPLE at the time that the franchise’s performance was a surprise in the first season under new ownership.

"Oh my gosh, this wasn't supposed to work out," Consuelos said. "This was a hair-brained idea."

When Consuelos and North Sixth Group chairman Matt Rizzetta embarked on this journey with Campobasso 1919, located in the same-named city in Southern Italy, they had zero players, no head coach and no general manager. They also only had 10 days until the start of the season.

"We assembled a team, many of which didn't see each other until three days before the first game. Our home field was in disarray, they had mushrooms growing on the field, so we had to play on visiting neighboring towns and small fields," says Consuelos.

Fast forward to 2024, and the team is sitting pretty as titleholders, and the achievement was not lost on the couple on Tuesday’s show.

“Did you have an emotional affair?” Ripa asked about the celebratory kiss, as they both laughed.

“Oh no,” Consuelos joked. “It could’ve been a guy, I don’t know.”
