Golden Retriever Meets New Kittens and Falls Head-Over-Heels in Love

There are reasons why Goldens are pretty much everyone's favorite dog. They're just so loving. That extends beyond being affectionate to their humans. Just take a video online of the exact moment a Golden Retriever fell in love with a litter of gray kittens. It seems like an unlikely pairing, but the dog's feelings towards them were so pure.

The pup's owner must've known that they had a gentle nature because she didn't hesitate to introduce the dog to the tiny newborn creatures.

The footage from @leo.tiger.nala shows the Golden Retriever carefully making their way downstairs towards the bed where the kittens were resting. The Golden finally made it over to the cats and gave them a good sniff before excitedly walking over to his owner and making his way up to the raised bed. His tail was wagging so fast, he kept bouncing up and down, and he was in a play position. But don't worry, he was very gentle with them. He even gave one of the kittens a kiss.

"That’s what you call love from the first sight," the animal owner joked in the caption.

The pup's excitement won over so many people in the comments section. "He’s SO excited at first but when presented with a smol kitten he gives [them] a very gentle beep," wrote one person. "Someone's a tad bit excited," joked another person. "Golden Retriever energy is the absolute best energy," a third commenter chimed in. "He was so excited but knew not to touch the babies," one woman pointed out.

Introducing Your Dog to Your New Kitten

If you're a dog owner who's just dying to get a cat, but is worried about bringing a new kitten home, there is hope! Obviously this family found a way to make things work, but bringing home a cat when you're currently a dog person is very possible.

First things first, take things slow. If you're bringing home a kitten you'll want to keep them apart from your dog at first. Don't worry, they'll smell each other and get used to each other's presence, which will come in handy when you start to bring them together.

A few days after bringing the cat home, try feeding them on opposite sides of a door. Again, you still don't want them to see each other just yet, but place their food bowls near the door and watch them to get acclimated to each other.

Make sure your dog knows basic commands before bringing the two together. Once you do arrange a meeting, keep it short and sweet (and supervised). Eventually you'll be able to repeat the meet-ups, and when it seems like the animals are ready for it, you will ultimately be able to let them loose.

It might take a little patience but soon your animals will get along like peanut butter and jelly.
