After some time away from public appearances due to his battle with cancer, King Charles made quite a triumphant return visiting the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre on April 30. Alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, Charles talked to fans and hospital staff and proved he was back on track with his royal responsibilities.

Seeing the footage of the outing, body language expert Judi James dished to Daily Mail how Charles was really feeling throughout it all. In her first observation, James acknowledged the royal’s love for attention. “His arms splayed out when he first arrived to suggest his love of being the center of attention and to even show-boat a little is undimmed and he was pointing and joking with the crowds, wearing a wreathed smile of delight to suggest he is happy to get back to work again,” she said.

James thinks Charles is so happy to be working again, that it might even present a “problem” moving forward. “[Camilla’s] problem could be persuading Charles to slow down a little,” the expert said. “His enthusiasm was evident and he seemed to be in no hurry to get back into the car after the visit.” Looks like Charles is totally on cloud nine!

In one moment, Charles shared a sweet moment with a young fan. “On the way out he bent to chat to the small girl holding his flowers and seemed in no hurry to cut the chat short,” James said, reading the interaction over video. “This was when we could see Camilla gently, but quite firmly for her, patting him on the arm and the back and pointing to perhaps signal he needed to get back into the warmth of the car and rest a little.”

Looks like Camilla won’t be worrying about getting Charles out of bed anytime soon!

As for the Queen’s body language, James stated she showed to be nothing more than supportive. “Camilla’s body language signals she is subtly stepping up to help protect and even steer her stoic and, I suspect, stubborn husband,” she said.

“As they waved to the fans their arms were close and her hand was even a little higher than his at times to suggest she is keen to offer him some of her own strength via proximity and postural echo,” James inferred.

As a reminder, Charles announced his return to duties 4 days earlier on April 26. “His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” a statement for His Majesty wrote on Instagram.

“To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients,” the statement continued. “This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.”

From the statement, it seems the King already has a series of events lined up. “In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government,” the caption read.

Looks like Charles has everything he needs to continue his work: love for his work, and a supportive wife by his side.
