Eddie Hassell, an actor known for appearing in the film The Kids Are All Right and the TV series Surface, died Sunday at age 30, EW has confirmed.

In a release obtained by EW, representatives for the Grand Prairie Police Department in Texas said just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3000 block of West Bardin Road. Upon arrival, officers located Hassell, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered first aid to the victim and he was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The motive is still under investigation but detectives can confirm a car was taken from the scene and later recovered. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) involved.

Hassell's manager told EW that he was shot outside the apartment of his girlfriend, who was in her apartment when it happened, and did not spot the assailant. Hassell was shot in the stomach.

Hassell most notably starred as Clay in the 2010 film The Kids Are All Right, opposite Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. He also played Phil Nance in NBC's short-lived series Surface, which featured Leighton Meester and Lake Bell.

Hassell also appeared in shows like Devious Maids as Eddie Suarez, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Bones, and Longmire. He had a small role in the Ashton Kutcher-led film Jobs in 2013, as well.

Besides acting, Hassell was an avid surfer and skateboarder. In 2013, he told Elle that his passion for skateboarding helped his career.

"I was into horseback riding and rodeos in Texas and when I moved to L.A., I got into skating. I did all my own stunts. I’m into anything with a board: surfing, wakeboarding," Hassell said.
