Disney Star Debby Ryan Buys Hollywood Hills Micro-Compound

BUYER: Debby Ryan
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $1.175 million
SIZE: 1,935 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: For the last decade or so Disney has churned out a veritable army of young, bankable stars at an almost stupefying clip and, so swears ever-reliable real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak, one of its current crop of young leading ladies, Debby Ryan, has paid $1.175 million (via trust) for a micro-compound on a ridgeline cul-de-sac in a convenient if humdrum corner of the Hollywood Hills.

Miss Ryan, flame-haired, buxom and now in her early 20s, isn’t on this property gossip’s television watching radar, but her online resume shows her teen years were spent doing small parts on a slew of Disney’s incessant parade of wildly popular if vapid and giddily sophomoric pre-tween and tween oriented programs such as “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place” before she did a three-season stint on “The Suite Life on Deck” and starred in a couple of television movies we’ve never heard of (“16 Wishes,” “Radio Rebel”). Nowadays she fronts an indie-pop band — The Never Ending — and she co-created and currently stars in the Disney Channel program “Jessie,” for which she was nominated for a 2015 Kids Choice Award.

The newly and completely renovated, two-story residence was originally built in the early 1940s and, per listing details, currently measures in at 1,935 square feet. As best as we can figure, the primary entrance is meant to be through a second floor door located around the side of the house that opens inelegantly directly into the kitchen. (A nondescript door off the carport could also be the intended front door, but it opens almost as clumsily into a nearly windowless, ground floor den/family room built out with a built-in wet bar.) Milk chocolate toned wood floors run throughout the open-plan upper floor living space that, in addition to the compact kitchen, includes a window-lined dining area and a living room with vaulted ceiling. A small deck off the dining area and a larger one off the living area both have power line-crossed canyon views that extend over a impressively broad swathe of the all but pancake flat San Fernando Valley.

The main house has two notably petite bedrooms, one upstairs and one down. However, given that neither has direct access to or private usage of either of the two bathrooms, it’s difficult to say which is meant to be the master. Whatever the case, a detached, two-story structure houses a small office and storage space on the lower floor and a tree house-like guest bedroom and oversized attached half bathroom on the upper floor.
