Johnny Depp’s Action Comedy ‘Mortdecai’ Set for Feb. 6 Release
Lionsgate has dated Johnny Depp’s action comedy “Mortdecai” for a Feb. 6, 2015, U.S. release.
It will open against Warner Bros.’ Liam Neeson actioner “Run All Night” and Universal’s long-stalled “Seventh Son,” starring Jeff Bridges as a medieval wizard. Depp portrays the title character in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
Depp’s sci-fier “Transcendence” performed poorly at the box office last weekend, grossing less than $11 million.
“Mortdecai,” based on the three-novel anthology by Kyril Bonfiglioli, wrapped production earlier this year after shooting in Los Angeles and London. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaz and Jeff Goldblum complete the star-studded cast.
David Koepp directed from a script he co-wrote with Eric Aronson and Peter Baynham. Depp is also producing with longtime producing partner Christi Dembrowski and Andrew Lazar. Production companies are Infinitum Nihil, Mad Chance and OddLot Entertainment.
“Mortdecai” is the first project under a multiyear, multipicture co-financing and distribution deal between Lionsgate and OddLot Entertainment.
