Looking to beat the 1 in 292.2 million chance of hitting the Powerball jackpot?

The state where you buy your ticket could have an effect on your chances of winning.

Florida and Pennsylvania have sold 16 life-changing tickets in the last 20 years, meaning those states sell an average of one jackpot-winning ticket every 1.25 years.

Wyoming, North Dakota, Mississippi and Maine did not sell any of the 227 winning tickets in the last two decades.

Generally, there are about 11 jackpot tickets sold each year, though that frequency has declined over the last several years. Eighteen jackpot-winning tickets were sold in 2013, the most in the last 20 years.

Between 2016 and 2023, an average of approximately seven winning tickets were sold, but previous years averaged about 14 wins annually.
