Alton Brown’s DIY Condiment Hack Is Kind of Genius

Alton Brown doesn’t need words to demonstrate the sheer brilliance of this stupid-simple kitchen hack, which could bring an end to impossible-to-pour, near-empty condiment bottles. Heavens no.

He requires only an epic soundtrack—”Also Sprach Zarathustra," composed in 1896 by Richard Strauss (though you may better know it as the seminal theme to Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”)—plus an egg carton and a bunch of half-empty mustard bottles.

Brown discovers that an egg carton with its lid removed is great for holding upside-down bottles in place. This enables the substances within to drip down, making them easier to squirt out on to, say, a waiting hot dog.

Alton demonstrates the hack using mustard, but nearly any condiment in a bottle will work. The theme song, of course, is optional.
