Romsey: Lorry wedged under railway bridge after crash

A road has been closed after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge and became stuck.

The vehicle hit the 14ft 3in (4.3m) structure on Greatbridge Road in Romsey at about 16:15 BST, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.

Firefighters worked to make the scene safe and one person was assessed by paramedics.

Network Rail said the bridge remained "fully functional" and it was awaiting an examination.

A spokeswoman added: "Hampshire police will assist with the removal of the lorry and we're not expecting any additional disruption to services at this time."

A South Western Railway spokesperson said a report of the incident came in just before 16:30 and by 17:00 "we were back to normal", and there was "little to no impact" on its services.

Crews from Romsey, Redbridge, Eastleigh and Portsmouth attended, according to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Greatbridge Road remains closed.
