2Pac Outpaces The Beatles With Latest Billboard Achievement

2Pac may have been fatally shot and killed 27 years ago, but his legacy and impact live on in many ways. The Marin City, Calif., rapper’s Greatest Hits compilation hit a significant milestone this week in the Billboard 200 albums chart that put him ahead of The Beatles.

The 1998 project officially reached 491 weeks on the long-running chart on Tuesday (Sept. 12), one day before the 27th anniversary of his passing. With this benchmark cleared, Greatest Hits has outpaced the English rock band’s 1969 album Abbey Road by one week. This is in large part due to records like “California Love,” “Changes,” “Hit ‘Em Up,” “Hail Mary,” and more.

This places Pac’s project, which peaked at No. 3 on the chart, in the upper echelon of Hip-Hop albums with staying power. He joins Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d City, which has been on the Billboard 200 for 567 weeks, and Eminem’s Curtain Call, which has been on the chart for 648 weeks. 2Pac was recently honored by his fellow California rapper Kendrick Lamar. Last Thursday (Sept. 7), the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers artist uploaded photos to his alleged burner Instagram account and one featured him wearing a graphic t-shirt with the Juice actor holding up his middle fingers.

Busta Rhymes recently shared a story about the “Thug 4 Life” rapper, revealing the depths he would go to ensure they could perform for their fans. “We get to the soundcheck late, so the sound man was kind of turning off the equipment and was like, ‘Y’all kind of missed your window for the soundcheck,'” Busta told Men’s Health back in August. “Pac goes to the sound man ‘cause he hears the sound man trying to tell us we ain’t gonna get the soundcheck today, we late. Tupac starts choking this motherf**ker.”

Pac was not only fighting for himself but for the Brooklyn rapper and his crew, too. “[Tupac said], ‘You not gonna disrespect, motherf**ker. Leaders of the New School, motherf**ker,” Busta continued in the story. “We ain’t asking for none of this. So, we grabbing Pac like, ‘Stop, B! You gonna f**k around and not even get us the opportunity to perform. You gonna f**k up the whole bag.’ [He said], ‘Man, f**k that! They can’t be disrespecting y’all. Y’all legends.’ We one album deep. He calling us legends.” Check out Busta telling the story below.
