World Beat Festival
When: 5 to 11 p.m. “Friday Night at the Beat” kickoff party at the main stage Friday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday
Where: Riverfront Park, 200 Water St. NE, Salem
Tickets: $10 per person or free age 14 and younger and Oregon Trail Card holders; $15 weekend pass.
Event description: Immerse in the traditions of more than 70 nations and cultures as you experience their music, dance and food. The cultural focus this year is the Philippines.

'Coppelia'
When: 6 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday
Where: Elsinore Theatre, 170 High St. SE, Salem
Tickets: $18
Event description: Premiere Academy of Performing Arts dancers perform in "Coppelia." "Dr. Coppélius is a doctor who has made a life-size dancing doll. It is so lifelike that Franz, a village youth, becomes infatuated with it and sets aside his heart’s true desire, Swanhilda," according to a description of the ballet on the Elsinore's website. "She shows him his folly by dressing as the doll, pretending it came to life. Chaos ensues, but all is soon forgiven."

'The Cuckoo Song'
When: 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Where: M. Lee Pelton Theatre, Willamette University, 900 State St., Salem

Event description: "World War II is over and 23-year old Kaija, accompanied by a young boy who seems to be her son, has fled her eastern European homeland now occupied by Soviet forces," according to a description of the play on the university's website. "Although she is now married and living in post-war Germany, her sailor husband’s long absences make it difficult to adapt to a normal life in this, to her foreign, land. Dreams and ghosts from the past keep challenging her sanity. When yet another personal tragedy happens, she battles with both friends and foes, struggling to find out whether it is her imagination or the outside world that hold the keys to her reality."
