Voodoo Doughnut and first Titans-themed restaurant arriving soon at Nashville airport

Over-the-top sweets spot Voodoo Doughnut, a 20-year-old Portland-based brand known for its unconventional toppings including bacon and Cap'N Crunch, will open an outpost in the Nashville International Airport.

Voodoo Doughnut will open alongside Kitty Hawk Eat + Drink, a new upscale grab-and-go concept. Steps away will be The Titans Press Box, the first Tennessee Titans-licensed restaurant concept.

All three are coming to the airport on Sept. 27 under the umbrella of Strategic Hospitality, the Nashville restaurant group also behind Bastion, The Catbird Seat, Locust, Merchants, The Patterson House and Kisser.

The airport concepts will be part of the International Arrivals Facility.

Max Goldberg, co-founder of Strategic Hospitality with brother Benjamin Goldberg, said that as a kid growing up in Nashville, he went to one of the first Titans games after the NFL franchise moved to Tennessee in the late '90s.

"I'm a lifelong Titans fan, and I'm actually going to the (Ravens-Titans) game in London, so to have a burger in The Titans Press Box before flying to London is surreal," he said.

The Press Box will be a full-service restaurant and bar with a "casual approach to upscale dining," said Goldberg, who added that it was a dream to create something "fun and dynamic" catering to Titans fans.

"This is very much a local thing for us," he said.

“From the moment we met Max and Benjamin, we’ve been eager to partner with them on a project like this,” Titans president and CEO Burke Nihill said in a statement.

Kitty Hawk was also created locally, despite its reference to first-in-flight state North Carolina. The concept, created for pressed-for-time travelers, will serve made-to-order food with grab-and-go options, locally roasted coffee and craft cocktails.

Voodoo Doughnut will share the same footprint with Kitty Hawk. Its menu will include classic doughnuts and house creations including the appropriately pink Simpsons-themed Homer doughnut and bacon-maple bars.

The popular Portland-based doughnut phenomenon was created by Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon in 2003. The brand now operates 18 locations across six states

"We've been big fans of Voodoo Doughnut for a long time, and we've seen their success as they've grown across the country," Goldberg said. "I'm embarrassed to say how many doughnuts I've eaten through this process."
