Allow Austin Butler to explain the origins of that viral dinner hangout with Snoop Dogg and Robert De Niro.

As previously documented by Snoop's son, Cordell Broadus, Butler was a guest at the Snoop residence in Malibu back in March for a dinner that also included De Niro. Butler shared all about the unlikely meeting of the minds during Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"What was going on here?" Kimmel asked, holding up the photo.

"That was wild," Butler said. "A mutual friend said, 'You want to come over to my house and have tacos with Snoop Dogg and Robert De Niro?' and I dropped everything I was doing and I was there in a heartbeat."

De Niro's tiny dog, aptly named Snoopy, is also featured in the photo. "Does this Snoopy smoke pot also?" Kimmel asked of the pup.

"I think he might have been indulging," Butler said, before adding that yes, Snoop offered him some marijuana, but "I was so nervous to get too high and then be trying to talk to my hero Robert De Niro so I refrained."

When asked if he'd ever indulged with Snoop by Butler, Kimmel offered an anecdote that he dubbed "one of the greatest moments of my life": "On television, yeah. In fact I was at Snoop's house and I was sitting in the corner and he had ordered chicken, a lot of it. And I ate a lot of it. He was watching me and I overheard him say to his friend, 'My nephew done ate six pieces of chicken already.'"

Butler is currently making the rounds to promote his upcoming film The Bikeriders, a crime thriller based on Danny Lyon's 1967 photo book about the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. From director Jeff Nichols, the starry cast also includes Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Mike Faist, and Norman Reedus.

At the film's Los Angeles premiere ahead of his late night appearance, Butler revealed he was involved in a motorcycle accident while on set. "We were doing a night shoot and hit a patch of wet leaves and I went down, but I thankfully landed on my feet,” Butler told PEOPLE. "All I was thinking about was the bike, though. I just wanted to make sure that it was OK."
