Rumors have been swirling around the potential Heat 2 cast, with Austin Butler recently commenting on his potential involvement in the sequel to the iconic 1995 film.

Speaking to the Associated Press recently, Butler was asked about his involvement with the film, and joked that he could neither “confirm nor deny” if he was involved.

When asked what the original Heat meant to him, however, Butler sung its praises.

“As an actor . . . it’s got some of the greatest performances,” said Butler of the original movie. “Just that diner scene alone between De Niro and Pacino is legendary. The attention to detail of Michael Mann and the desire for complete authenticity is inspiring. Yeah, I think that’s a movie that’s inspired a lot of us actors, for sure.”

Butler keeps any involvement a secret for now

In a separate interview with ET, Butler also kept tightlipped on any potential Heat 2 involvement, but did praise Mann in what he jokingly called a “canned answer” he had been giving out.

“Well, I love Michael Mann,” Butler said. “I have a canned answer that I’ve been saying for this, just, yeah I love Michael Mann, I love the first film, I love Val Kilmer. Yeah, it’s — he’s an incredible filmmaker.”

Mann and Reed Farrel Coleman wrote a novel, published in 2022, that serves as a sequel to Heat. Mann confirmed plans to turn the novel into a movie, which is expected to begin filming this year. Earlier this year, Mann said that he was in the process of writing the film, and couldn’t confirm any casting news until that was done.

It’s been rumored that Adam Driver — who starred in Mann’s last movie, Ferrari — could play in the upcoming film, though his casting has not been confirmed at this time.
