Warner Bros. Japan announced on Thursday that it had officially begun production on Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, a sequel to 2018’s original anime film Batman Ninja.

The new sequel will be produced by Warner Bros. Japan and directed by Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi, the former of whom also directed the 2018 film. The movie will be written by Kazuki Nakashima, with character design by Takashi Okazaki and music by Yugo Kanno, all of whom also worked on the original anime film.

What do we know about Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League?

No casting information was revealed at this time, but Warner Bros. did reveal that Koichi Yamadera, the voice of Batman in the 2018 movie, would be reprising his role for the new film. More information will be revealed during Anime Expo 2024, which is set to be held in Los Angeles in July.

Originally released in 2018, Batman Ninja followed the story of Batman and a variety of his allies and adversaries being caught in Gorilla Grodd’s Quake Engine time displacement machine and being sent into feudal Japan. There, he faced off against enemies like the Joker, Bane, Harley Quinn, and more.

The movie was received well by both critics and fans, with many praising DC for taking a leap and trying to present a Batman story in a new light. A manga adaptation was also released in 2020.
