Now that The Bear Season 3 is looming closer on the horizon, series star Ebon Moss-Bachrach is teasing his character Richie’s journey in the upcoming third season of the hit comedy-drama.

According to Moss-Bachrach — whose television credits include The Punisher, NOS4A2, The Dropout, and more — Season 3 of The Bear will feature Richard “Richie” Jerimovich finally finding the right “path” for him, which will help him find purpose in life along the way.

The Bear Season 3 will see Cousin Richie in a different light

Richie was introduced as the best friend of Carmy’s (played by Jeremy Allen White) late brother Michael (Jon Bernthal), who served as the de facto manager of The Original Beef of Chicagoland previously owned by Michael that Carmy eventually took over.

For the past two seasons, Richie has been portrayed as Michael’s best friend and Carmy’s cousin — a term used to highlight his close bond with Carmy even though they are not, in any way, related by blood. For Season 3, though, Moss-Bachrach said during his appearance on The Daily Show (via THR) that Richie will finally realize that there’s a path for him after all.

“I think for Richie, he’s become aware that there’s a path for him to find purpose and live a maybe fuller life, a richer life, in a way. But just because he’s aware of that path doesn’t mean that he’s cruising up to the top.”

“When he’s yelled for 46 years, you know, I think it’s hard to maybe [retire] the outdoor voice,” Moss-Bachrach added, referring to his character’s intense exterior, which Moss-Bachrach revealed to be a fun role to be delving into.

Speaking further about the character, the actor added: “A lot of the time I find myself having to create a character a lot, you know, like the script is kind of open-ended, and you sort of have to figure things out and build and create a lot. And this one, he just felt really fully formed. And I just had a strong connection.”

The third season, which will consist of 10 episodes, will arrive on Hulu on June 27. It also stars Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson, Edwin Lee Gibson, and more.

“A young fine-dining chef, Carmy, comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop. As he fights to transform the shop and himself. He is all set for a rough-around-the-edges crew that ultimately reveals themselves as his chosen family,” the official synopsis reads.
