‘Beef’ Creator Lee Sung Jin “Definitely Ready” For A Season 2, Reveals Show Was Pitched As Anthology – Golden Globes Backstage

Lee Sung Jin is ready to cook up more Beef.

Backstages at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, the hit Netflix show’s creator revealed that more seasons was always the plan, even if it has heretofore been discussed as a limited series, including tonight as it won the prize for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, Made for Television Movie.

“We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters,” Jin explained. “Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready.”

Jin went on to say that he feels “very fortunate” to be a writer. “There’s so many stories that I still want to write about,” he reflected, “so when they let me know, I’m sure you all will know, as well.”

Starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, who also picked up Golden Globes tonight for their performances, Beef draws loosely on a true story to chart the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers. The first season watches as Danny Cho (Yeun), a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, goes head-to-head with Amy Lau (Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. The increasing stakes of their feud subsequently unravel their lives and relationships.

Also starring Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake, Beef‘s exec producers are Jin, Yeun, Wong, Jake Schreier, Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich. Producers of the show include Jes Anderson, Savey Cathey, Inman Young, Alex Gayner and Matthew Medlin.

Tonight’s Golden Globes were held at the Beverly Hilton, with comedian Jo Koy presiding over the ceremony as host. For the still-updating list of winners, click above.
