Ben Affleck may be married to superstar Jennifer Lopez, but that doesn’t mean he always feels comfortable in the spotlight.

For the season four premiere of comedian Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart, Affleck opened up about grappling with his wife’s “bananas” level of fame.

Admitting that he’s “a little bit shy,” Affleck said, per People: “I also don’t like a lot of attention. … This why people see me [and] they're like, ‘Well, this dude always mad…’ Because somebody has their camera and [they’re sticking it in] my face.”

While he»s more or less used to paparazzi chasing him and Lopez down for photos, Affleck said he resents subjecting his children—Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12, all of whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner—to the same fate. The couple’s blended family also includes Lopez’s 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

“I don’t mind you taking my picture about a club, a premiere, whatever. My wife, I don’t give a fuck. Go ahead. Knock yourself out. I don’t notice you,” he said. “My children, that’s a different thing.”

Affleck continued, “People love her. And she really represents something important to people. [To me,] people are like, ‘Hey, I like your movie,’ and then they’re like ‘AHHHH! J.LO!’ It’s amazing.”

He recalled an instance when Lopez’s fame came to a head during a family outing in New York City.

“We get out of the car, we were going to a play, and I was like, ‘Fuck it, babe, we’re going to be late, we gotta walk a block and a half.’ [Lopez] was like, ‘All right,’ she didn’t say shit,” the Air director said.

“We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the shit was like fuckin’ bananas. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ There was a lady, she was smoking weed, in a full purple skintight suit—she’s a heavy lady—and she starts running backwards filming, going ‘J.LO!’ Like a herald,” he continued. “Then [she] gets everyone else—they’re all tourists, whatever—just moving. Then I’m moving. We got, like, our five kids, me, and Jen, and it feels like hundreds of people and now screaming.”

He added, “That’s why I put my bitch face on.”

While we don’t know when Affleck sat down with Hart to film this interview, rumors of marital strain have been swirling around him and Lopez for months. The two are currently living under separate roofs amid recent reports that they had listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale. Lopez was most recently sighted on a solo trip to Italy without Affleck.
