It's a busy month for the royal family! After Trooping the Colour and Garter Day, it's now Royal Ascot.
Royal Ascot, a race founded by Queen Anne in 1711, takes place each June at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire. Each day, members of the royal family attend, officially opening the event. When Queen Elizabeth, an avid equestrian fan, was alive, she would attend all five days; last year, King Charles and Queen Camilla also were there every day.
In a letter printed in the first day of the Royal Ascot's program this year, the King and Queen write, "We are delighted to welcome you to Royal Ascot for another week of spectacular racing that draws spectators and viewers from across the globe." They add, "We wish all the participants this week the very best of luck in seeking that unique thrill of a Royal Ascot winner. We also hope that those here at the racecourse and watching from home will enjoy five days of the finest racing that this sport has to offer."
