BJ The Chicago Kid and Coco Jones hit the stage to perform their collab “Spend The Night” at the 2023 BET Soul Train Awards.

The casually dressed Chicago native kicked off his set slowly, singing, “Time is tickin’, baby, take a load off/ I’ll take the weight up off your shoulders/ Wake up to lovin’ in the morning/ If you spend the night with me.” To the audience’s surprise, Coco made her way to the stage for the second time to sing her verse. The chemistry between the two was evident as they went riff for riff on a stage hovering over a glistening pool. As they brought high energy to the Keke Palmer-hosted ceremony, the audience rose to their feet and grooved to the upbeat dance track.

BJ released “Spend The Night” in September with an accompanying video that followed a month later. When speaking about his duet with Jones and how it’s much different from his normal sound, BJ said, “Music is like a journey, and with our new song, we’ve taken an exciting detour from our standard sounds. It’s an experimental experience. Sometimes, you have to wander off the beaten path to discover a whole new world of creativity.”

Jones also spoke about the collab and added, “Working with BJ was such an awesome experience. I am always so inspired by artists who love what they do. I think this song, with our tones together, is something really special.”

“Spend The Night” is the third single from BJ’s new album Gravy, which released on Nov. 10.
