The Bold Hair Styles and Hair Accessories Stars Wore on the Red Carpet in 2017

Stars haven’t been holding back with their hair transformations, especially on the red carpet. From bold undercuts to flirty ponytails, nothing seems to be off-limits for some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

One of those daring stars is Viola Davis, who debuted a pixie cut at the 2017 Oscars that she actually cut earlier that day. “Leave it to Viola Davis to cut her hair the day of the award show,” said PEOPLE’s Beauty Editor Jackie Fields on People Now. “They all know they can grow it back. You’re going to see a lot more risks like this.”

“This is like cutting your hair the day of your wedding. Let’s appreciate she took that kind of risk on her wedding day/Oscars,” PEOPLE’s Style and Beauty Director Andrea Lavinthal added on People Now.

The key to pulling off a bold new do is to go for something that compliments your personality, which is what Taraji P. Henson did when she rocked an edgy undercut at the 2017 SAG Awards.

“I thought this look was totally awesome. It’s totally Taraji. This woman is confident, she’s sexy, and I think the undercut said it all,” Fields said. “Also I think as she gets more into awards season, she starts shaving lines into it. This is just somebody who knows exactly what they want to do with their hair and I wish more people would take risks like that.”

Jane Fonda’s youthful ponytail and bangs combo at the 2017 Emmy’s had everyone talking because it was a risky move for the 80-year-old actress.

“She was like Barbie in the best way possible,” Lavinthal said. “Jane Fonda looks half her age and she wore this fun, flirty, playful ponytail and those bangs and it was all anyone could talk about on Emmy’s night.”

Ruth Negga took her hair style for the 2017 Oscars even further by adding a ruby headband to her up-do. Hair accessories are having a major moment as more and more celebrity hairstylists are designing their own lines, according to Fields.

“I think the whole monochromatic look here is absolutely stunning,” Fields said.
