Brie Larson offers advice to new Marvel stars: 'Really understand how to go to the bathroom in your suit'

The "Captain Marvel" star says she is always the first to email newbies with tips for playing a superhero.

Being a superhero isn’t easy — especially when it comes to figuring out bathroom breaks.

After saving the day as Captain Marvel in three MCU entries, Brie Larson knows this struggle a little too well. Which is why she does her best to pass on some very important advice to any actor who dares to pick up a superhero mantle. During a roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter, Larson spoke about her efforts to reach out to Marvel newcomers on the verge of donning spandex.

“Wait, you’re a superhero mentor?” Fellow roundtable attendee Naomi Watts asked.

“Always. I’m the first person to email everybody because it’s very specific and very strange,” Larson said of playing a comic book hero. “People are like, ‘I don’t know how to do this.’ Yeah, no one does. Why would you?”

So what does the MCU's Carol Danvers recommend? "I’ll say, ‘Train, because you’ll want to be as prepared in your body as you possibly can because it only gets harder as the job goes on. And really understand how to be able to go to the bathroom in your suit.’”

She explained, “The first Captain Marvel, it was a 45-minute thing to get me in and out of that costume.”

At least when it came to her costume, Larson told her roundtable compatriots that there was no "secret trapdoor" or "zipper" available, which is why she encourages newcomers to "get a plan."

She added, "I can’t stand when people have to wait for me to go to the bathroom, so I’d have to time it out.”

Larson later acknowledged that leading a superhero movie and living up to audience expectations is itself a stressful task.

“It’s a whole thing, and it’s a lot of pressure,” she admitted. “And I think it’s a strange thing, especially when you’re a newcomer and you’re tasked with being the most powerful blah, blah, blah of blah, blah, blah, and you feel scared. It’s so hard to be the cool, confident one when you’re like, ‘Do I know what I’m supposed to be doing?’”

Outside of bathroom plan advice, Larson has been very supportive of the next wave of Marvel heroes, including her The Marvels costar Iman Vellani. After teaming up with Vellani and Teyonah Parris for a space adventure, Larson was happy to sing the young actress' praises.

"Iman is the future," Larson told EW ahead of the film’s release. "She is the perfect Ms. Marvel and the most incredible person and castmate. I'm so excited for her success and I'm so excited to see what she will do with her life because she can do anything she wants. She's one of my favorite people on this earth."
