Where Was Connie Britton During the American Horror Story Reunion?
Fox previously announced that Monday’s reunion-heavy telecast would include an American Horror Story vignette featuring Britton and fellow franchise vet Dylan McDermott. But when the AHS homage played out on stage, McDermott was forced to fend off Rubber Man on his own (see image, above). Where art thou, Britton? According to the actress’ rep, inclement wintery weather on the East Coast forced the AHS: Murder House and AHS: Apocalypse alum to fly to New York early to begin shooting her new Robert De Niro-led Netflix thriller Zero Day. What Did Roy Wood Jr. Mouth on Stage?
As former host Trevor Noah accepted the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, ex-Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. — who exited the Comedy Central show in November — stood behind him and mouthed what we’ve all been thinking: “Please hire a host.” His plea comes 13 months after Noah’s exit, and after a full year of Comedy Central relying on guest hosts. Who was the ‘Green Goblin’ at the Emmys?
The mysterious green-skinned lady stealing attention on the Emmys carpet (and later on the stage) was none other than Princess Poppy, a contestant from Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The architect behind FX/Hulu’s acclaimed restaurant drama, er comedy, was conspicuously missing from Monday ceremony, which saw the auteur winning Emmys for writing, directing and producing The Bear. What could possibly stand in the way of Storer basking in his show’s triumphant night? We’ve got five capital letters for ya, and the first one is “C” and the last one is “D.” (The middle three are “OVI.”)
Were Any Major Emmy Records Broken?
When it comes to the 2023 Emmys, the following can be said — and rather unequivocally: It was one for the history books. Among the records broken: BEEF‘s Ali Wong became the first woman of Asian descent to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series; Succession‘s Sarah Snook was the first Australian performer to snag the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series trophy; Abbot Elementary‘s fearless leader, Quinta Brunson, became just the second Black actress ever — and the first one in more than 40 years — to win the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series prize (The Jeffersons‘ Isabel Sanford blazed the trail in 1981); Elton John’s victory in the Outstanding Live Variety Special category gained the singer entry into entertainment’s exclusive EGOT club; and with 10 wins, The Bear becomes the most honored comedy series in Emmy history (surpassing Schitt’s Creek‘s then-record 9 wins in 2020).
Beef Creator Lee Sung Jin Referenced an Anti-Aging Drug for Dogs — Is it Real?
In accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Jin declared, “Everything I do is for my three dogs,” before cheekily adding, “So, the Federal Drug Administration, if you could please fast track that K-9 anti-aging pill, that would be so lovely.” Um… Is this a real drug? Doggone it — it is! It’s called LOY-001 and, per reports, it’s designed to address the shorter lifespans of larger breeds. What Did Pedro Pascal Say That Got Bleeped?
We answered this on Emmy night but, ICYMI, here’s the scoop: Upon taking the stage as a presenter at Monday’s ceremony, Pascal jokingly informed the audience that his arm is in a sling because “Kieran Culkin beat the s—t out of me.” This, of course, was in retaliation for Culkin telling The Last of Us star to “suck it” after the Succession MVP won the trophy for Best Lead Actor in a Drama at last week’s Golden Globes. (The truth? Pascal injured his arm in a fall.)
What Was Paul Walter Hauser Eating?
Black Bird‘s Paul Walter Hauser was mid-snack when he was announced as the winner in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series category, which set the stage for the wonderfully bizarre speech he ultimately delivered. So, what was he munching on? According to Hauser’s rep, it was dried mangos given to him by his manager as part of a (presumably) superstitious inside joke.
