Chart-topping Bluegrass band performs in Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Chart-topping Bluegrass gospel band Chosen Road performed Sunday in Beckley.

Darius Rucker says country music ‘still’ carries a ‘stigma of rebel flags and racism’

The congregation of Northgate Baptist Church was treated to an impromptu concert as the band passed through on their way back home from a music festival in Kentucky.

Northgate’s paster Josh Johnson, and founding member of Chosen Road, Jonathan Buckner, said it was a good opportunity for them both.

“We’re just ecstatic to have professionals such as them to come and just lead us in worship and just spending some time with the Lord singing songs today,” said Johnson. “For a small church to have gentlemen of this caliber to come and just share their gifts and their talents with us, it’s a true blessing, so we’re honored to have them.”

“We love any chance we get to worship with local churches, so we’re glad that this worked out that we could be here today.” said Buckner.

Buckner said that all of the members got their starts playing in small churches in southern West Virginia and are glad for the chance to do so once again.

Chosen Road has six albums out, including “Appalachian Christmas” which debuted at number one on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums Chart in 2022.

Chosen Road’s next local performance will be on Saturday, August 3rd at the Mercer County Fair in Princeton.
