Daddy Yankee is hanging out in different kinds of clubs these days.
The reggaeton star has gotten really into padel, a cross between tennis and squash.
How serious is the entertainer about the racket sport?
Serious enough to invest his hard earned dough. The Puerto Rican native (real name: Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez) is the proud owner of a professional league team, the Orlando Flowrida (yes) Goats.
As of Wednesday, Daddy also now has his very own club in Fort Lauderdale dedicated to the sport called 10 By 20 (FYI: The dimensions of a typical court are 10 meters wide by 20 meters long).
The 48 year old was on hand at the grand opening of the 10 By 20 at the Powerline Road facility on Wednesday. Famous pals like Alexander Delgado (Gente de Zona), Elvis Crespo and Prince Royce came out to show their support. Royce was totally game, and even suited up for a friendly tournament.
So, what’s padel’s appeal? And why did the “Gasolina” hitmaker, who is focusing more on his faith these days, want to invest?
“It’s relaxing,” Daddy said during a recent CBNC interview. “I have fun playing with friends and family and I really love the sport. Everyone can [do it].”
While there are roughly 30 million amateur padel players globally, the United States has yet to catch up. Daddy wants to change that, reportedly planning a 10 By 20 in Wynwood in the near future.
This state of the art club may give newbies incentive to try it out, with seven indoor courts, changing rooms, snack bar, pro shop, physiotherapy sessions and more.
“This club represents a blend of my love for padel and providing a top-notch experience for all who visit,” said Daddy, 48, in a release.
