Damian Priest does not think he is a paper champion, and proved it in Glasgow.

Priest retained his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle. Despite being in Drew’s home country of Scotland, Priest won the match thanks to some help from CM Punk in Glasgow.

This extended his reign further than many expected since winning the belt from Drew at WrestleMania 40. Since his Money in the Bank cash-in, Damian Priest has proved himself to be more than just a transitional world champion.

Despite most of the conversation after the match being about CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest is the World Heavyweight Champion.

At the Clash at the Castle post-show press conference, Damian Priest was asked about if the victory helped the discount the naysayers about his title run. The World Heavyweight Champion replied that he wasn’t a “transitional” or “paper” champion.

He continued, saying that he has proven the doubters wrong, and will continue being the champion in the WWE “against all odds”.

“How important? Transitional. Paper. Again, more things to shove down people’s throats. Before I was champ, ‘You can’t do it.’ I did it. ‘You can’t hold it.’ I held it. ‘You can’t beat Drew in Scotland.’ I did it. He called me a paper champion, he said I couldn’t beat him. Everybody thought I was going to lose. Damian Priest is the World Heavyweight Champion, the face of Monday Night Raw. Against all odds, against all hate, I’m the champ and I’m going to continue being the champ.”

Damian Priest will have to prove his worth against at Money in the Bank. He is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins, which was announced upon Rollins’ return on Raw.
