Michelle Stafford won Best Actress at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards for her performance as Phyllis on “The Young and the Restless.” Winning isn’t new to her, for sure. This is her third victory for this performance. But she hadn’t won in 20 years. Check out the complete list of Daytime Emmy winners here.

In her illustrious career Stafford has been nominated 12 times as Phyllis, a role she originated in 1994 and has played off and on for three decades. Her two previous Daytime Emmy victories were Best Supporting Actress in 1997 and Best Actress in 2004. When she stepped away from “Y&R” for several years in the mid-2010s, the character of Phyllis was taken over by another soap vet, Gina Tognoni, who also won an Emmy for the role, Best Actress in 2017.

To secure her latest trophy, Stafford submitted a performance reel she described to Soap Opera Digest as “the culmination of Phyllis spinning out and then pleading to not be put in jail.” But she’s not the only actor from “Y&R” celebrating a trophy this year. Courtney Hope claimed Best Supporting Actress — the award Stafford got her Emmy start with — for her performance as Sally Spectra. She previously earned a nomination in the category in 2021 for playing the same role on sister soap “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Alas, “Y&R” lost the top prize of the night, Best Drama Series, to record-extending 17-time winner “General Hospital.”

To claim her trophy, Stafford had to defeat a couple of “GH” women, Finola Hughes and Cynthia Watros, as well as “B&B” stars Katherine Kelly Lang and Annika Noelle, and “Days of Our Lives” standout Tamara Braun. What did you think of Stafford’s latest victory?
