It's official: Democrat Doug Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate special election in what many pundits are calling a major upset and a black eye to President Donald Trump.
Jones becomes the first Democrat sent to the Senate by Alabama, a deeply conservative state, since 1992.

The result, called just before 10:30pm ET, has been celebrated by a music community which had denounced Moore, a controversial and divisive Republican candidate whose campaign was plagued by accusations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls in years past.
Pink, Jack Antonoff, John Legend, Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui and many more rejoiced in the outcome and applauded the winner Jones, whose name immediately started trending on social media.
"Congratulations Alabama. One small step in the right direction for all of us. Our voices are being heard," wrote Pink, while Alyssa Milano, the actress who helped ignite the #MeToo movement, tweeted: "Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity, Alabama. And thank you for fighting for what’s right."

#DougJones has won the Alabama Senate seat vacated by #JeffSessions. I believe he will bring not just honor and pride to all the good citizens of Alabama, but a way forward to the decent jobs, education, and economy everyone wants.

Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!
