The Fifteenth Doctor is visiting dinosaurs, a "Bridgerton"-type ball, the apocalypse, Jinkx Monsoon, and more.

The Doctor is in, and he's feeling brand new. Ncuti Gatwa's interpretation of the iconic British sci-fi character has been teased for years now, but in the wake of last year's 60th anniversary Doctor Who specials, the former Sex Education star is finally ready to set off on his own adventure across time and space.

The new trailer has an exciting preview of the escapades Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) will embark upon in their TARDIS. We see them hanging out with dinosaurs, and triggering the literal "butterfly effect" when Ruby steps on a butterfly, apparently changing human history in that she immediately turns green with scales.

There's a brief appearance from upcoming guest star Jinkx Monsoon, and elsewhere the Doctor and Ruby dress up for a trip to a Regency era ball.

"Oh my Bridgerton!" Ruby exclaims, decked out for the ball.

But there are darker things on the horizon as well. In what looks like a dark future, the Doctor warns, "the whole world could slide into the pit. That's what we're trying to stop."

Gatwa plays the Fifteenth Doctor, taking over the starring role on Doctor Who from Jodie Whittaker. The gap in numbering is due to the aforementioned quartet of 2023 specials, which saw David Tennant (who had previously played the fan-favorite Tenth Doctor) briefly return to the role as the Fourteenth Doctor to celebrate the franchise's 60th anniversary.

That interregnum is important to Gatwa's interpretation of the Doctor. The idea is that, after a first-ever "bi-generation" led to both Tennant and Gatwa's Doctors existing at the same time, the Fourteenth Doctor decided to spend decades working through his trauma. That way, in his next life as the Fifteenth Doctor, he can embrace life to the fullest without constantly worrying about the intense things he's seen and done. As Gatwa declares in the new trailer, "everything is possible!"

The new season of Doctor Who premieres Friday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. ET on Disney+ in the U.S. and the BBC around the world, with new episodes coming on subsequent Fridays. Watch the trailer below.
