When you're a TV personality, someone is always watching.
ESPN's Britt McHenry learned this the hard way when she was caught on a surveillance video berating a towing company employee. "I'm in the news, sweetheart, I will f**king sue this place,” the Washington D.C.-based sports reporter is heard saying to a woman off-camera.
But the rant didn't stop there. "Yep, that's all you care about, is just taking people's money," McHenry said. "With no education, no skill set, just wanted to clarify that. …Do you feel good about your job? So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing? Why, cause I have a brain and you don't?"
McHenry also goes after the employee's physical appearance, telling her to "lose some weight, baby girl."
"Maybe if I was missing some teeth they would hire me, huh?" she continues. "Cause they look so stunning ...Cause I'm on television and you're in a f***ing trailer, honey."
ESPN confirmed Thursday that it has suspended McHenry for a week.
After the video went viral on LiveLeak, it came time for the 28-year-old reporter to apologize. "In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things," she tweeted. "As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake."
