Netflix will release The Fall of the House of Usher on Thursday, Oct. 12, TVLine has learned. The new series from horror auteur Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass) is based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

Per the official logline: “Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”

Bruce Greenwood (The Resident) and Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) play Roderick and Madeline, respectively; Greenwood stepped into the role after Frank Langella, who held it previously, was found to have engaged in “unacceptable conduct on set” and was let go.

The cast also includes Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Carl Lumbly (Alias), Malcolm Goodwin (iZombie), Paola Nuñez (The Purge), Daniel Jun (The Expanse), Kyleigh Curran (Doctor Sleep) as well as several actors who appeared in The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and/or The Midnight Club: Carla Gugino, Aya Furukawa, Ruth Codd, Sauriyan Sapkota, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, T’Nia Miller, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Igby Rigney, Robert Longstreet and Annabeth Gish.

You can see many of them in the gallery above, which gives us our first look at some of The Fall of the House of Usher‘s many characters. We’re particularly intrigued by what’s got Kohli’s character so bloody — and bloody agitated — in the photo at the top of the post.

The limited series will consist of eight episodes, with Flanagan and frequent collaborator Michael Fimognari each directing four installments. Flanagan also will write the scripts. The limited series will mark Flanagan and producing partner Trevor Macy’s fifth project at Netflix; Fimognari and Emmy Grinwis (Snowfall, Mrs. Davis) also will serve as executive producers.
