'Falling For Christmas' Was Filmed At *This* Utah Resort
If you haven’t already binged Falling for Christmas, the new Lindsay Lohan Christmas hit, you're going to want to drop everything and snuggle in on the couch for some major happy, cozy, holiday vibes.
Lindsay’s comeback film dropped on Netflix on Nov. 10, and people are already obsessed with it. Imagine the early 2000s Hallmark movies of our childhoods, and then add in Lindsay Lohan in 2022. It's *chef's kiss*.
Falling for Christmas tells the story of one recently-engaged and pretty spoiled heiress, Sierra Belmont, the daughter of the rich owner of the Belmont Summit Resort. When Sierra has a skiing accident and suffers from memory loss, she’s discovered by a man named Jake Russell, who owns the struggling North Star Lodge, a much smaller bed and breakfast. Lindsay, I mean Sierra, ultimately discovers her true self while helping the North Star lodge get back on its feet.
So naturally, it’s set in snowy Aspen and is so beautiful, leaving viewers (myself included) to wonder where they actually shot the movie. Ahead, learn about all of the film locations, including the resort and state in which it was shot.
Most of the scenes are shot in Utah.
Both resorts, which play a huge role in the plot, are actually shot at (and inside) real inns and resorts in Utah. Specifically, the scenes were shot in Salt Lake City and Park City, per Distractify. And Falling For Christmas was filmed from Nov. 8 to Dec. 15, 2021, per Decider.
The Belmont Summit Resort
In real life, The Belmont Summit Resort is actually the family-owned Residences at Goldener Hirsch (which translates to "Golden Deer," per Dirt) in Park City, Utah, which opened in 1992 as part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, per PEOPLE and Travel Weekly. The Residences consists of a two-building complex originally thought up in 2020 by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects.
Those cozy interior scenes in the movie were also filmed at the Goldener Hirsch Inn, per Dirt.
The North Star Lodge
Interior
For the less glamorous North Star Lodge, the film decided to shoot the scenes at two different Utah hotels about 20 miles apart from one another, says Dirt. Interior scenes were filmed at the Goldener Hirsch Inn, which is pretty near to the Residences in Deer Valley's Silver Lake Village. Built in 1990 by Mac MacQuiod, a developer, it's meant to be a sister location to the Hotel Goldener Hirsch in Austria, so its design takes after European hunting lodge styles. Originally, the hotel was four stories tall with 18 rooms and suites.
In 1992, it was acquired by the Eccles family, becoming one of the most luxury boutique hotels in Park City, before undergoing major renovations for expansion in 2015. The original inn was renovated, and the two Kundig-designed towers were added, according to Dirt. These days, the ski-in, ski-out hotel has 60 rooms and suites with private balconies and fireplaces, and there's a rooftop pool and hot tub, a library lounge, sauna, game room, fitness center, and more, the outlet reports. During the off season, room rates begin at $400, but during high ski season, they can rise up in the $4,000 range.
Exterior
Sources don't totally agree on where the exterior of the North Star Lodge was shot, but there are a few thoughts on the topic.
Dirt writes that it was shot at the Blue Boar Inn. The production crew needed somewhere a little less hustle-and-bustle that was quieter and more quaint. Dirt says they used the back of the inn to film outdoor scenes. The Inn has 14 rooms, each of which is themed, either in the style of Jane Austin or William Shakespeare. (Okay, obsessed!) You can stay there starting at $200 a night.
BTW, if this spot looks a lil familiar, it's not an accident—Bachelorette Becca Kufrin once had a dinner date with Wills Reid at the Blue Boar Inn in 2018 during their 14th season, per Dirt.
However, other sources say that the outdoor scenes were shot at the Stein Eriksen Lodge, which is also located in Deer Valley. The Stein Eriksen Lodge opened in 1982 and underwent a $14 million expansion in 2018 where a new pool, outdoor deck, entertainment room, and coffee bar were added, per PEOPLE and the Park Record. It also has a five-star bath, fitness centers, and more.
BTW, rooms start at around $600…just putting it out there.
That Tree-Lighting Ceremony
In the film, there's a tree-lighting ceremony that Sierra, Jake, and Jake's daughter, Avy, all attend, taking place in Summit Springs. IRL, they shot outside the Powderhorn Lodge (is anyone else loving the names of these hotels?) at the Solitude Mountain Resort, per Dirt. This resort is about nine miles from The Residences at Goldener Hirsch, BTW.
And for the scene of Avy making her special Christmas wish at The Wishing Tree at the start of the film, they actually filmed at the Gardener Village shopping center in West Jordan, says Dirt, which is located just over 20 miles away from the Powderhorn Lodge.
Other filming locations
Although most of the film was shot at these hotels and lodges, a lot of the outdoors scenes were shot in snowy Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. It has a couple of mountaintop scenes (re: that engagement and all of the skiing), so it makes sense that Utah would be the perfect place to shoot.
