Felipa’s Flix: Inside Out 2 just as good as the first one
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Pixar’s latest is a sequel to an animated feature about feelings that only Pixar can create. Critics Choice member Felipa Solis is here with good news about this film that is bringing in lots of box office and lots of happy kids.
Disney’s Pixar does it again. Inside Out 2 is a charming, predictable film with big-time box office “cha-ching.” Audiences around the world flocked to the theaters to beat the heat and to make sure that precious little “Riley,” is okay. And that – she is.
I really think that you need to see the original Inside Out to get the feel of how Riley is growing up and navigating the world.
In 2015, we saw a very precious little girl dealing with her emotions including sadness, fear, anger, anxiety, and how a happy child has to navigate it all. We loved her and we needed plenty of Kleenex.
This time around Riley is celebrating her 13th birthday, and Joy seems to rule the day. We get a touch of Nostalgia, disguised in rose-colored glasses, which is super emotional, but something this little girl, or “teenager,” may not be ready to face.
Enter Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, but they are all based in a Tower now, and they have different ways to control Riley’s emotions, but almost as if they are in a “control room,” of sorts where they can push buttons on a console and adjust dials to change it all out.
New feelings and choices including dealing with her parents are part of this picture, as she handles a whole new world. As a teenager, Envy and Embarrassment play a vital role, but this fabulous teen with braces and all, learns life’s amazing lessons as strong emotions become her reality.
In the end, Joy always wins, or so we hope, and this film is perfect for pre-teens to see how fragile it all can be and how to face obstacles and be good to themselves and win at any age.
The film is rated PG for what is referred to as mild peril. It’s all good and Inside Out 2 is simply filled with Joy.
