Twenty years after the original 2004 film's release, Lohan showed her support for the musical remake.
Lindsay Lohan is making fetch happen again.
The actress reunited with Tina Fey at the premiere of the Mean Girls musical movie in New York City on Monday. Lohan starred as Cady Heron in the original 2004 comedy, while Fey wrote the screenplay and played math teacher Ms. Norbury.
Now, after 20 years, Fey is revisiting North Shore High School with a cinematic adaptation of the 2017 stage musical based on the original movie. Fey once again wrote the script and portrayed Ms. Norbury — and Lohan arrived at the premiere of the new film to show her support for the grool new project.
Lohan previously reprised her Mean Girls role last year alongside former castmates Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert in a Walmart commercial.
The new Mean Girls also stars Reneé Rapp, who played Regina George in the musical's Broadway run, as well as Auliʻi Cravalho, Christopher Briney, Jaquel Spivey, Bebe Wood, and Avantika. Busy Phillipps, Jon Hamm, and Jenna Fischer play some of the film’s adult supporting roles, while Ashley Park — who portrayed Gretchen Wieners on stage — plays a French teacher. Tim Meadows is the only other 2004 cast member reprising his role for the 2024 movie, once again portraying Principal Duvall.
In an interview with EW, Fey reflected on the challenges of balancing familiarity with new additions when making Mean Girls for the second time. "It’s tricky, because jokes have to be surprises to work," Fey said. "So, finding genuine new moments and then finding spots to subvert what you expect the old line to be was really helpful." She also joked about the surreality of penning the same movie twice. "Sometimes I say I feel like I’m in a Twilight Zone episode where I’m like, 'Oh, so I just write this one movie for the rest of my life? Okay!'"
Mean Girls hits theaters Jan. 12.
