Few last names have loomed larger over the indie horror space over the past decade than Eggers. After bursting onto the scene (and launching both Anya-Taylor Joy’s career and the term “elevated horror”) with “The Witch” in 2015, Robert Eggers cemented his status as one of his generation’s most distinct auteurs with “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman.” But he’s not the only Eggers looking to make a stamp on the horror genre.

The upcoming A24 film “The Front Room” is written and directed by Max and Sam Eggers, Robert’s brothers and frequent collaborators. While both men are making their feature directorial debuts on the project, Max co-wrote “The Lighthouse,” and Sam co-wrote Harry Mavromichalis’ 2018 film “Olympia.” Both men have also performed a variety of crew jobs on Robert Eggers’ other projects.

“The Front Room” stars Brandy Norwood as a woman whose life takes a dark turn when she allows her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) to move in with her. The film marks Brandy’s return to the horror genre nearly 30 years after her role in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” launched her big-screen acting career.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “Everything goes to hell for newly-pregnant Belinda (Brandy) after her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere…”

In addition to Brandy and Hunter, the film stars Neal Huff and Andrew Burnap. Max and Sam Eggers adapted the script from a short story of the same name by Susan Hill.

A24 will release “The Front Room” nationwide on Friday, September 6. Watch the trailer below.
