Funk Fest returns to Louisville's Waterfront Park. Here's what you missed on day one

On Friday, Funk Fest, the annual hip hop and R&B festival, returned to Louisvlle's Waterfront Park

Described as the "ultimate Old School R&B/Hip Hop outdoor music experience," the first night of the two-day festival featured hip hop artists Jeezy, Boosie, Scarface, Too Short and more.

As part of June's Black Music Month and a weekend of Juneteenth celebrations, Funk Fest is billed as a music festival with the feel of a family reunion and drew fans from across the midwest.

General admission ticket holders spread out blankets and set up folding chairs for the day-long event while VIP sections offered shaded tented areas on the Great Lawn.

Funk Fest, a traveling concert event that played in Orlando, Florida before Louisville and will move to Atlanta, Georgia in August, returned to Waterfront Park for a sixth year.

While Friday was devoted to hip hop, Saturday will highlight R&B with featured artists Charlie Wilson, Marsha Ambrosius, Total, 112 and Shai.
