Back in April, General Hospital alum Ryan Paevey (ex-Nathan) announced that he was putting his career on hold, aside from possible projects with friends, and now the former daytime actor has spoken out on some comments that he made, ones that he wanted to rectify.

During an Instagram live, Paevey began by simply stating, “I have to rectify something,” then went on to explain that in his last live post, while talking about some of his films that would be rerun, he commented on not earning residuals on those said projects. “I’ve since been educated by my team and by my union,” he went on. “So I have to tell you guys that was my mistake. We do earn residuals.”

The actor touched base on the fact that the nature of his were unique because “we are contract and that’s kind of a unique thing in the industry. I did not understand the way that these things were broken down, the way we earn residuals, the way residuals are taken into account in advance when you’re in a contract.” After having the matter cleared up for him, Paevey further explained, “When you’re in a contract, there is a significant percentage of it that counts as an advance against residuals when films are rerun and I did not understand… so what I said was inaccurate but have since been educated by my team, by SAG [Screen Actors Guild] and all kinds of stuff so that was my mistake.”

He also said that “the educating is ongoing” and apologized by adding, “I’m sorry, I really am and I hope that others in my position are being educated as well, or that maybe others in my position are more educated than me, and that my education continues. We do earn residuals and in my particular case, that was a significant percentage of the compensation that I received in advance of shooting these films.”

Anyone who has followed Paevey throughout his career knows that he is a class act so it’s no surprise that his former co-star, Kirsten Storms (Maxie) jumped into the comments to show her support by stating, “This was classy.”

The last time we saw Paevey was in Hallmark’s 2023 original movie Under the Christmas Sky, and though he quickly became one of the network’s favorite actors, we can respect his position on stepping away for a bit but do hope that we will see him once again on our screens in the future.
