‘General Hospital’ Star Tabyana Ali Claps Back Against Racist Trolls

Soap opera fans suspend disbelief about a lot of crazy things. Amnesia; long lost twins; questionable paternity; people coming back from the dead; and multiple personalities are just a few of the wild stories that are commonplace on daytime dramas. For some so-called “fans” of “General Hospital,” these are all acceptable tropes, but a Black girl living in Port Charles is a step too far.

Tabyana Ali plays Trina on the Emmy-winning series. Sadly, the popular actress wasn’t able to keep the drama on-screen, as she’s been the target of racist online harassment since joining the show in 2022. She responded to the attacks on X, sending positivity to the trolls, while also imploring them to “touch some grass [and] see the sun.”

“To anyone that hates me. That’s absolutely fine. I don’t know you and you don’t me but regardless I’m sending you peace, safety, and prosperity,” she wrote. “I also pray you touch some grass, see the sun, eat a delicious meal, and find something to do. Peace and love.”

The crazy part about all this is that Black viewers make up a large portion of the soap opera audience. As much as these jerks want to pretend like we don’t matter, we do. We’re an important part of this world, so we want to watch and support actors who look like us.

“And Im sorry that this is the [way] you feel like you have to be seen. I’m sorry that life isn’t happening how you want,” she added. “But if you found something you loved to do other than hurting people. You would never have the energy to say what you’ve been saying to people ONLINE!”

The actress pointed out that ignoring the racists doesn’t always seem to work, but she also doesn’t want to acknowledge them and let them into her life. Ultimately, she just needs them to know we all see their hate.

“We cannot be feeding in to peoples hate. We cannot be giving it back. We cannot stoop to rude/racist people’s level. It doesn’t help. We are fighting too many wars as it is,” Ali wrote. “But we got to find another way to fight. I’ve realized ignoring doesn’t help but neither does giving the energy back. We’re going in circles and that doesn’t get us anywhere. Everybody might not agree with me but thats okay. I just want to let ‘those’ people know, I see you.”

She was supported by several co-stars and the show on social media, with the official “General Hospital” X and Instagram sites posting a message to the haters.

“General Hospital does not tolerate hatred or bigotry of any kind,” read the statement. “Racism has no place in Port Charles. #GHIsForEveryone.”

From “Star Wars,” to the MCU, to the gaming world, to music, and now soap operas, this conversation is getting exhausting. There’s a very easy fix to all this nonsense. If you don’t like something, don’t watch it. You can take a pass on the things you don’t want and let the rest of us enjoy them. That’s all you have to do.
