Each week during Gerry's season of The Golden Bachelor, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about the widower's "journey" to find love. Today Jesse shares his thoughts via email about that emotional rose ceremony, how the senior singles managed to stay up all night long, and those surprising smooches.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This was a new experience for everyone who works on the show. How would you describe the vibe in the mansion on night one of The Golden Bachelor compared to night one on The Bachelor or Bachelorette?

JESSE PALMER: One of the biggest differences on night one was the ladies' confidence! Stepping out of the limo for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience with Gerry standing there, and with all the cameras. But the Golden Gals came out of the limo strutting their stuff, ready to meet Gerry and begin their journey.

The first cocktail party went all night long, just like on the regular Bachelor and Bachelorette. How did Gerry and his Golden bachelorettes keep their energy up until dawn? Were there any cat naps?

The thing I was most impressed with was everyone's energy on night one. I thought for sure there would be some napping throughout the evening, but Gerry and the ladies were partying all throughout. They even had a dance party at 5 am!

Gerry looked really devastated when he had to send women home — and it was only night one! How hard was it to see him so upset?

I think one of Gerry's many incredible qualities is his compassion, so it was very difficult to see him hurting like that. Gerry wears his heart on his sleeve, and that first rose ceremony was the first time I think he realized just how emotional this journey was going to be for him.

Gerry told us in an interview that his friends advised him not to kiss anyone on the first night, but obviously he didn't take that advice. Were you surprised by the smooching?

Easier said than done! Talking with Gerry outside the mansion, I had a feeling that nothing was off the table. Gerry was intent on being open and allowing the night to take him wherever it may.

Finally, did Jimmy Kimmel send an Uber for Aunt Chippy, or is she still asleep on the mansion couch?

Great question! There are a lot of beds in the Bachelor mansion; she might still be living there rent free...

The Golden Bachelor airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
