Grantchester Renewed for Season 10, Ahead of Season 9’s Big Vicar Switch

Masterpiece on PBS announced on Tuesday that the mystery series Grantchester has already been renewed for Season 10.
The news comes not 48 hours after the Season 9 premiere aired Stateside and laid the foundation for both an exit and an introduction. (Read our premiere recap.)

“I couldn’t be happier to recommission Grantchester for a 10th season,” Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson said in a statement. “This is hands-down one of our most popular series and I know the fans will be thrilled to see it continue with the outstanding Robson Green and Rishi Nair back for more crime-solving.”
A previously reported, Season 9 will mark leading man Tom Brittney‘s swan song as vicar Will Davenport, a role he has played since Season 4. To fill the void following Brittney’s June 23 send-off, the Masterpiece series on June 30 will introduce English actor Rishi Nair (Hollyoaks) as Will’s successor, Alphy Kotteram.
“This show is a testament to our lovely team — the cast and crew,” writer and executive producer Daisy Coulam said of the renewal news. “I’m so grateful and proud that we get to come back together for our 10th season and another glorious summer in Grantchester!”
Adds fellow EP Emma Kingsman-Llloyd, “We are so delighted by the audience reaction to Grantchester and appreciate that they have enjoyed so many episodes. We are overjoyed to be filming our 10th series and bringing more of Geordie and Alphy’s adventures to the screen.”
Season 9 is currently airing Sundays at 9/8c, through Aug. 4. The series is also available to stream on the PBS App, PBS.org and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
