“Hairspray”’s Nikki Blonsky Reveals She and Longtime Partner Hailey Jo Jenson Are Married: ‘Felt Like the Right Time’

"I get to spend every day with my best friend," Blonsky said, reflecting on her favorite part of being married

Nikki Blonsky is married!

The Hairspray star, 35, announced in a new interview with Out, published on Saturday, June 1, that she eloped with her wife Hailey Jo Jenson (who uses they/them pronouns) in an intimate ceremony on Oct. 21, 2023.

"It was super special," the "I Can Hear the Bells" singer said of the small wedding ceremony. "All I knew was that I wanted to marry Hailey. As long as Hailey showed up, we were good to go. Hailey and the person who was going to marry us."

In the joint interview, the couple also revealed that they got matching ring tattoos to mark the occasion.

The moment they got engaged — both presenting each other with rings while on a trip to New York in 2022 — was equally private.

"I was going to try and do some big elaborate proposal, but that's not really us, and I just wanted it to be genuine," Blonsky told Out. "And so we were just hanging out watching TV in bed one night, and the ring was burning a hole in my pocket."

Jenson said they were talking about how much they loved each other and getting emotionally overwhelmed. "So I pull out a ring and then Hailey pulls out a ring, and then we all started screaming," Blonsky recalled.

Although they announced their engagement in September 2022 on Instagram, they wanted to announce their marriage on their terms in their own time.

"My brother got married in November, and it is just so nice to see people being able to refer to their spouse. And I want to be able to refer to my wife. So yeah, it now felt like the right time," Blonsky explained of why she finally felt ready to tell the world she is married to Jenson.

"And with Pride Month coming up, I always want to encourage people to live their truth and live their best life, and everybody deserves love," she added.

The pair told Out that they first connected on a TikTok Live when Blonsky — who came out in 2020 — was randomly choosing fans to chat with on the app. Jenson said that after their first chat, they slid into Blonsky's DMs and ordered a Cameo from her.

The relationship naturally progressed from there and when they met in person, it was love at first sight for Blonsky.

"I remember when Hailey came to see me in California, and they got to the top of my staircase, and they were carrying their luggage and they turned around and I just saw their face right in front of me for the first time, and I said, 'This is the person I'm going to marry for sure,' " she recounted.

Blonsky said that she had never considered marriage before meeting Jenson.

"I was very content with my career [and like], 'If love's going to come my way, whatever will be, will be.' And thank goodness it was meant to be," she said.
