June 21 (UPI) -- Hamish Linklater, Christina Ricci and Mckenna Grace are set to lead the voice cast of Prime Video's planned animated series, Batman: Caped Crusader.

The DC Comics adaptation is described by the streaming service as a "reimagining of the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm."

Toby Stephens, Reid Scott, Tom Kenny, Minnie Driver, Diedrich Bader and Jamie Chung will also play characters on the series, which is slated to premiere on Aug. 1.

"Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear," a synopsis said.

"Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human -- the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications."

The Penguin, a live-action series focusing on one of Batman's greatest foes, is expected to premiere soon on Max. Reeves is also an executive producer on that project.
