The HUF x Nike Air Max 1 Is Making a Glorious Comeback This Weekend

Back in 2004, Nike linked up with the California skate brand HUF on an instant cult classic: the HUF x Nike Air Max 1, a distinctive take on the an iconic silhouette that’s still remembered as one of the best collabs of its era. This week, for the first time in two decades, Nike and HUF are bringing this classic back.

The original HUF x Air Max 1, designed by the late HUF founder Keith Hufnagel, was initialy sampled in three bold colorways. Only one wound up getting released: a deep gray combined with pops of vibrant lime, a color since known as “HUF Green.” The new drop will see the other two versions—a gray-and-orange and gray-and-pink—released to the public for the first time.

But just because these colorways are marking their official arrival doesn’t mean they’ll be easy to cop. While the original gray-and-green version is now available around the world, the orange-and-gray will a North American exclusive, and the pink-and-gray will be exclusive to Japan. The shoes are available now at HUF, and they'll drop via Nike and skate shops globally on Saturday, June 22. If you’re looking to collect all three, you’d better start traveling.

This collaboration was conceived as a tribute to Hufnagel, who passed away in 2020 at 46, as well as “his continued legacy” in the skateboarding and fashion space. Conceptualized by HUF’s Chief Creative Officer Hanni El Khatib, a longtime friend of Hufnagel, the launch and the campaign around it are a fitting homage to a legend who was taken too soon.
