Iowa native Jason Momoa will bite off Shark Week hosting duties on Discovery Channel

Aquaman is hosting Shark Week.

Norwalk native and actor Jason Momoa will join the yearly Discovery Channel celebration of sharks. Shark Week, which is now in its 35th year, premieres on July 23 at 7 p.m. with "Belly of the Beast: Feeding Frenzy."

Momoa is one of Hollywood's most notable ocean activists and serves as the United Nations' Environment Programme’s Advocate for Life Below Water.

Past Shark Weeks hosts include Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, comedian Rob Riggle, Discovery Channel series host of "Expedition: Unknown" Josh Gates and former professional basketball player Shaquille O'Neal.

Shark Week begins at 7 p.m. Central time on Sunday, July 23, on Discovery Channel. Episodes will be available on the Discovery+ App or Max. A full lineup of Shark Week programming is available on discovery.com.
