Ivanka Trump is mulling a return to politics, possibly timed to the Republican National Convention in mid-July, but there are quite a few risks if she decides to take on that challenge. The 42-year-old daughter of Donald Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, have worked hard in the last four years to distance themselves from their Washington, D.C. lives. Instead, they muscled their way back into socialite circles in Florida after they were shunned by their New York City pals.

While the Florida elite would certainly keep them in the fold, Ivanka’s celebrity friends might retreat away from the limelight when she’s around. In general, Hollywood and Donald Trump don’t mix very well. In October 2023, The New York Times covered her warm welcome back into the entertainment industry’s fold when Kim Kardashian invited the former White House senior adviser to her 43rd birthday party in Beverly Hills. She was rubbing elbows with Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, Hailey Bieber, and Kimora Lee Simmons. That access to Hollywood would likely close again if she decided to help her father return to the Oval Office.

However, Puck News‘ Tara Palmeri, who first broke the news about Ivanka’s possible return to politics, said something very curious on the May 7 episode of The Powers That Be podcast. The writer believes that Ivanka is watching Melania Trump’s reticence about Donald Trump’s campaign as an opening for her. “She thinks that Melania won’t go to the White House or that there’s a strong chance that she’ll just stay at Mar-a-Lago,” claimed Palmeri. “That would kind of open up this opportunity for Ivanka to be the hostess of the White House.” That possibility might keep her Hollywood circle interested in maintaining their friendship.

As of right now, though, nothing is set in stone. “After a longstanding position of ruling it out, she’s more open to it,” an insider told Puck News in the original report. “It’s getting more real, it’s revving up.” Ivanka thinks that a Donald Trump win seems more realistic now, but her spokesperson is putting the brakes on the rumors — for now. “As they’ve both repeatedly stated, Ivanka and Jared continue to focus on their family and lives in the private sector and do not intend to go back to politics,” they told the media outlet.

Political watchers should keep an eye on Ivanka because this political gossip seems to be ramping up instead of slowing down, even after her spokesperson’s denials. It would be a huge about-face from her November 2022 statement: “I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics.” Will Ivanka stick to this statement or wade back into the Washington, D.C. pool again?
