Jack Harlow famously loves his hometown and his family — especially his younger brother, Clayborn Harlow.

The brothers were raised in Louisville, Kentucky, by parents Maggie and Brian Harlow, who co-own a local sign shop together called Signarama Downtown. The couple welcomed their first child together, son Jack, on March 13, 1998. Clayborn, who goes by Clay, was born two years after the “First Class” rapper on Nov. 23, 2000.

The pair have been close since childhood, when they’d spend their elementary school days dressing up as their favorite characters from Star Wars or Harry Potter.

“I would wake up in the morning and dress up as Anakin,” Clay told Rolling Stone. “And [Jack] would be Obi-Wan or whatever.” In a 2017 Louisville Magazine profile on the then-up-and-coming rapper, Jack said he was more reserved as a child, while his brother was a “friend-making machine” on the playground.

As they’ve grown up, the brothers have always had each other's backs. Clay is a proud and supportive sibling, often praising his big brother’s success on social media and wearing his merch in photos.

So who is Jack Harlow’s brother? Here is everything to know about Clay Harlow and his relationship with the Grammy-nominated rapper.

Jack and Clay grew up together in Shelbyville, known as the American Saddlebred Capital of the World. Jack rapped about his childhood in one of his early tracks, 2013’s “Started From the Middle.”

He sings, “Okay, raised out in Shelby County, livin' on the countryside / Lookin' out my window, see a couple horses running by / I ain't even joking man, that's true and for real / Then I hit third grade, and we moved to the 'ville, uh huh.”

The family even owned a horse named Buster, which they sold when they moved to Louisville for the boys to be closer to other kids, according to Louisville Magazine’s 2017 profile on the rapper.

Jack has been vocal about his love for Louisville throughout his career and is proud to be able to shine a spotlight on his community. "It means everything. It's my foundation. It's part of my DNA,” he told PEOPLE in 2021. “People joke about how often I reference my home, but it's a huge part of my identity and I want you to think of Louisville when you think of me.”

Jack graduated from Atherton High School in 2016 while Clay attended Ballard High School, where he was on the soccer team. He’s shared a handful of photos and videos from his high school days on social media, including photos of him and his soccer teammates.

They were raised in a musical family

Jack credits his mom with sparking his early interest in music. She played Eminem for him while he was in the womb, according to Louisville Magazine. Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest were also staples in their household, according to Rolling Stone.

“He and my mom would freestyle in the car,” Clay recalled to the outlet about his brother’s early interest in rap. “They would put on instrumentals, and we’d be driving somewhere, and they would both rap.”

Clay himself also has an interest in music and has dabbled in various instruments, including piano. “Just finished first piano lesson,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), in 2023. “Got twinkle twinkle little star on lock."

In 2023’s “Blame on Me,” Jack rapped about the dynamic of siblings growing apart as they hit their teenage years. The verses appear to shift from the perspective of the narrator’s little brother, back to himself and then to their father.

“Suddenly I meant nothing to you / You wanted nothing to do with me / You run with a crew that doesn't include any room for your little brother / I was destroyed but I still loved ya,” Jack raps on the track, seemingly from the perspective of a younger brother who’s been left behind by a sibling they love and look up to.

Clay has helped produce some of Jack’s songs

Clay has followed in his brother’s musical footsteps, pursuing a career in production. He’s even worked on some of Jack’s hit songs, including “I Got a Shot” off of 2022’s Come Home the Kids Miss You. He expressed his pride over the opportunity to collaborate with his brother on Instagram, sharing a photo of the album cover.

“THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO HAS HELPED ME ALONG THIS JOURNEY!!!!!!” he wrote. “I COULDNT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!! LOUISVILLE NEXT!!!! ❤️❤️❤️.”

Jack posted a photo on Instagram of the pair working in the studio in Nashville together in October 2023.

The budding producer has worked with a roster of artists, with production credits on fellow Louisville-raised artist Bryson Tiller’s “Profound Outro,” Russ’ “Reflection,” Agift’s “You Know How the Story Goes” and more.

From repping Jack Harlow merch to hyping up his brother’s music online, Clay isn’t shy about how proud he is of the rapper.

“‘First Class’ music video is prolly my favorite Jack video. S--- is beautiful. Under-appreciated,” he wrote on X in 2023. Later that year, he also boasted about how quickly Jack’s track with Jung Kook, “3D,” went viral. “Bruh got a million views in 25 minutes,” he wrote.

When Jack was nominated for a Grammy in 2022 for rap album of the year, Clay was quick to congratulate him — and hilariously insist he’d always known this day would come.

“I told Jack the day I was born that he was bound to be Grammy nominated,” he wrote on X. “I remember laying there, umbilical cord still attached. I looked in jacks eyes and let him know, you’re gonna do it in 2022. You’re gonna get nominated for Rap Album of the Year.”

They both want kids one day

Both Jack and Clay have made it clear that they’re looking forward to fatherhood one day. For Jack’s part, he’s said on multiple occasions that he wants to have 8 kids. “I want 8 daughters,” he said on Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Clay addressed his desire to be a dad on X. “I don't get why so many people don't want to have kids,” he wrote in 2016. “I'm hyped to have a lil boss man running around.”

Whether hitting the red carpet or joining his brother onstage, Clay has made a handful of public appearances to support the rapper throughout his rise to fame — and his brother has always returned the favor.

To mark Clay’s 16th birthday, Jack brought him out during a concert and had the audience sing him “Happy Birthday,” according to Louisville Magazine.

In 2022, Clay hit the Grammys red carpet to show support for Jack, who had scored his first-ever Grammy nomination for best rap performance for his hit “What’s Poppin.”

“Brooooooooo,” he captioned photos of himself looking dapper while walking the carpet solo
