Jane Fonda Pens Heartbreaking Tribute After Death of Former Co-Star

Jane Fonda is honoring her former Klute co-star, Donald Sutherland, following reports of his death on Thursday.

"I am stunned to hear that Donald Sutherland has died. He was my fascinating co-star in Klute and we loved working together," she began in the caption accompanying her June 20 upload, a throwback photo from the set of the 1971 crime thriller that also featured director Alan Pakula.

The 86-year-old Grace and Frankie actress went on to describe the late movie star as a "brilliant actor and a complex man" whom she shared many fond memories with and proceeded to list a few of the "adventures," including the FTA Show, which Fonda described as "an anti-Vietnam war tour that performed for 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors, and marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines, and Japan in 1971."

"I am heartbroken," she concluded.

Fans immediately began trying to comfort Fonda, with one writing, "I am so sorry that your friend Donald Sutherland has passed. He was one of the greats & the pairing of the two of you in Klute was pure magic. May he rest in peace. 💔."

"So sad…❤️," a second replied. "but what an incredible life and legacy!❌❌."

NYPD Blue and Shameless actress Sharon Lawrence added: "What an artist, what a legacy."

The M.A.S.H alum's son, Kiefer Sutherland, also spoke out about his passing, declaring him "one of the most important actors in the history of film" who had "a life well lived" in his own emotional tribute.
