Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany Aldean shared their reactions after former president (and current presidential nominee) Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felony charges. The Trump verdict marks the first criminal conviction of a former president in U.S. history.

The “Try That in a Small Town” singer shared a photo on Instagram of an upside down American flag — a symbol among Trump supporters meant to signal a country in crisis — along with a caption regarding the verdict. “Scary times in our country right now, man. When a former POTUS gets treated like this by our justice system, what does that mean for the rest of us???” he wrote. “If there was ever a time to speak up, ITS NOW! Make no mistake…. We are in trouble.”

Meanwhile, Brittany Aldean posted on Instagram, “WE LOVE YOU @realdonaldtrump. The ones with a brain can see through the smear campaign.”

On May 30, after a seven-week trial, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of all 34 charges of falsifying business records in the first degree. Trump’s sentencing court date is set for July 11, four days prior to the start of the Republican National Convention. Trump is faces either a fine, probation, or a prison sentence of up to four years.

Later in the day, Brittany Aldean posted again to Instagram, this time promoting a line of Free Trump/United We Stand merchandise that the pair was selling less than 24 hours after Trump’s conviction. In additional to t-shirts, some of which feature Trump’s mug shot, the line includes a cap with the upside down American flag.

Brittany posted, “No time like the present to rally the troops in support of The People’s President!
Now is the time to speak up or we may lose our country as we know it forever to this corrupt administration! Your purchase will help support the @realdonaldtrump campaign.” The site does not specify how much from each purchase will go toward the Trump campaign and Aldean’s representative did not immediately reply to a request for information. As one commenter noted, Trump is free as he awaits sentencing and has already announced his plans to appeal.

The Aldeans have previously associated with Trump, including attending Trump’s New Year’s Eve gala and playing golf with Trump in Florida in 2022.

Aldean is currently on his Highway Desperado Tour and recently paid tribute to late country music artist Toby Keith during the Academy of Country Music Awards, by performing Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”
