Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell and his band The 400 Unit cancelled two shows on Wednesday and Thursday due to a vocal cord issue Isbell faced in the midst of a virus.

The cancelled shows included a sold-out concert at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas and a gig at The Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Missouri. Both shows have been rescheduled, with the Kansas show on May 7 and Missouri's concert on May 8. Tickets from the original show dates will be honored for the new dates.

On Instagram, Isbell explained to his fans the reason behind the cancellations.

"So… I haven’t been in the hospital and I don’t have COVID- looks like I got just enough of a virus from my daughter over the weekend to cause drainage that temporarily screwed up my vocal cords," Isbell wrote.

"I got checked out, got a prescription, and I’m sleeping at an angle and drinking a ton of water. Everybody is ok, I just can’t sing well enough to put on a show that meets our standards. Last night and tonight are rescheduled for May and I’m hoping to be all good to go for the OKC shows tomorrow and Saturday.

"Thanks for understanding, and I’m terribly sorry if you’ve gone out of your way to see these shows."

Isbell and The 400 Unit will play arena shows with The Turnpike Troubadours on Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City at The Paycom Center.

The band's guitarist, Sadler Vaden, will be sitting out the Oklahoma shows to spend time with his newborn child. Instead, Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Sheryl Crow) will be filling in and Vaden will be back mid-February.

Isbell and the band will be extensively touring through August, playing shows from London to Mexico to California. This year, the band will appear alongside a variety of artists, including Roseanne Reid, Palehound, Amanda Shires, Zach Bryan, Levi Turner, Adeem The Artist and many more.

The tour follows Isbell and The 400 Unit's release of June 2023 album "Weathervanes," which scored three Grammy nominations for February's upcoming ceremony. Nominations include Best Americana Album, Best Americana Performance for “King of Oklahoma and Best American Roots Song for “Cast Iron Skillet.”

On Sunday, June 16, Isbell and The 400 Unit will perform at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN. The day will be headlined by DJ Fred Again.., with Megan Thee Stallion, Two Friends and Carly Rae Jepson also hitting the stage that day.

Isbell's tour comes in the midst of his most notable acting performance yet, appearing in the Scorsese movie "Killers of the Flower Moon." In the crime, western film, Isbell takes on the role of Bill Smith, the husband of Reta, played by JaNae Collins. Isbell has also appeared in "Billions," "Squidbillies" and "Music Box."
