Joe Alwyn Talks About Relationship With Taylor Swift For The First Time

Over the years, Taylor Swift has tried to distance herself from talk of past or current relationships (though her songs dedicated to certain exes still live on).

And she’s stayed relatively mum about her boyfriend of two years, British actor Joe Alwyn.

Alwyn spoke about what it’s like to date one of the world’s most popular people in a new interview with British Vogue, as reported by E! News.

“I’m aware people want to know about that side of things,” he told the magazine. “I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people … but I really prefer to talk about work.”

They’ve been so private that fans have only had rare paparazzi shots or grainy videos of the two. There’s also a small reference to their relationship in a music video. (The 28-year-old singer wears a “J” necklace ― likely a nod to Joe ― in the video for her single “Delicate.”)

The two began dating early in 2017 and finally confirmed their romance in May of that year. Prior to Alywn, Swift was with DJ Calvin Harris for nearly two years and then briefly dated actor Tom Hiddleston.

As Swift’s said before, it’s difficult for her to have a relationship in the public eye unless it’s long term.

“I think the media has sent me a really unfair message over the past couple of years, which is that I’m not allowed to date for excitement, or fun, or new experiences or learning lessons,” Swift said in an interview with Glamour UK back in 2015.

She added, “I’m only allowed to date if it’s for a lasting, multiple-year relationship. Otherwise I’m a, quote, ‘serial dater.’ Or, quote, ‘boy crazy.’”
